This striking enamel \"Dunlop Stock\" \"Tyre Service\" two piece enamel sign is in original \"as found\" condition and has not been repaired or restored.Scotsman John Boyd Dunlop was inspired by his son\'s tricycle, In trying to provide his son with a smoother ride and better handling he took the tricycle, wrapped its wheels in thin rubber sheets, glued them together and inflated them with a football pump. That way he developed the first air cushioning system in history, and laid the foundation for the first pneumatic tyre which he patented in 1888. A new company was formed in 1896 called the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co Ltd.The sign has the usual areas of enamel loss, there are also areas of metal loss mainly to the edges and corners of the signs. There also five holes to the \"Dunlop Stock\" sign, as well patches of enamel loss and rust stains to the body of the sign. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The black, red and yellow colour scheme has a fair depth of colour and the enamelled lettering is still vivid and clear. Each sign measures 130 cm (51 inches) by 51cm (20 inches).
