Vintage, collectible, colored, unframedprint (late 1970's, 18 inches by 24 inches) commemorating the revival of Polynesian navigation/wayfinding by the late international artist, Anthony Gruerio.
These vintage prints are in excellent condition with vibrant colors on quality stock paper and would look beautiful in a variety of frames.
The wa'a kaulua, or double-hulled canoe, is extremely significantto Polynesian exploration and migration. The hae Hawai'i, or Hawaiian flag, was commissioned by Kamehameha I for the Kingdom of Hawai'i. These long distance, voyagingcanoes are credited for Polynesian settlement over thousands of nautical miles using traditional, non-instrument, celestial navigation (stars, currents, natural elements).
These prints have been in our family for almost 40 years as our father set up a business relationship with the artist. They were created to commemorate the initial voyages of the Hokule'a. With the recent completion of her World Wide Voyage (Malama Honua, caring for Mother Earth), we would love to see these prints be enjoyed in homes around the globe.
They are perfect for celebrating Hokule'a's accomplishments over the last 3 years traversing over 40,000 nautical miles, visiting 150 ports in18 countries, while spreading the message ofsustainability and honoring indigenous knowledge.
Your print will be mailed rolled in a 2 inch diameter by 24 inch long tube suitable for shipping. In order to avoid damaging the prints, no more than one per tube will be mailed. The prints will be sent from Hawai'i via USPS First Class, so shipping times may vary.
