Vintage Wind-Up Tin Toy GUNTHERMANN ACROBAT.Clockwork. Working. Complete All Original Germany 1890 Age 127.
The Acrobat is near 127 years old, handassembled and hand painted, circa 1890. His body is heavy gauge all tin andmeasures 7.5 inches tall. The gold trapeze bar is steel, and 6 inches long, the2 hooks attached to the string are untampered as are the finishing parts at thetwo ends of the trapeze bar
The acrobat is driven by a clockwork springmotor. He spins forward, and back, 360 degrees, around and back, sometimes afull 360 degrees, others times partially rotating, operating exactly as the toyis intended to work.
The acrobat performs perfectly. The movementis ingenious, the mechanism complex.Gunthermann was a pioneer in applying clockwork mechanisms to toys, likecompetitors Fernand Martin, Walter Stock, Lehmann and others.
The key is fixed and the string is original.
The acrobat is meant to be hung, placing thestring loop over any object that will allow him to spin freely.
Giving toys like the acrobat movement began arevolution of interactive toys, expanding learning, the imanginations and the intellectof young children to this day.

Gunthermann Biography: Siegfried Gunthermann began manufacturing in 1877. TheAcrobat is one of his earliest toys. He was known for his quality andcreativity. His earlier toys from 1877to 1930 were clockwork type wind up mechanisms that used a clock spring as themotor to drive several size intricate gears. Simpler wind up mechanisms weremade by Gunthermann after WWII, during Occupation of the US Zone in Germany,1945 -1955, and therafter until their closing in the 1980’s. bar
