Vintage WIND UP SCHUCO Tin ToyBOAT.1950 Complete Working ALL Original. Age 67
This is a very, very, very difficulttoy to find. We looked for it over many years before scoring. You won’t see this wind up boat in any of theSchuco specialty sales, we searched those too and still routinely look to seeif it can be found. This is among the scarcest of all Schuco toys. The boat wasmade in Nuremberg, Germany, immediate post war, 1950.
The wind-up mechanism is advanced, oneof the earlier genre of toys that turn when they reach the edge of the tableand do not fall off. This was accomplished by adding an extra wheel and twogears to the mechanism.
Donot be fooled by the boat driver, he is NOT plastic, he is ALL tin, and theboat is all tin. The driver is hand paintedwhite and both his arms are tabbed to his torso. Looked closely and you can see his finelypainted goggles and the serious expression of a competitor on his tin face.Amazing that Schuco accomplished crafting the driver’s face from tin.
Pleaselook at the detail of the 3 dimension steering wheel, which is cast metal with3 spokes. Though easily susceptible to cracking and breaking over it’s amazingit survived in one piece. Actually, the first thing we ripped off as little kidswas the driver, so it’s awesome he too survived for 67 years and in such greatcondition.
Themechanism works perfectly and the spring is especially strong. The bottom paintfinish is perfect, as are the condition of the wheels.
Includedis the original Schuco key, specially made with a longer shaft to be sure theboat isn’t scratched while winding.
Thetoy does not appear to have even very light play wear and it’s fair to say thatthe Schuco boat has not been played with and should be considered mint. The paint is perfect. Wind up the boat and itzips along the table top without falling off.
Thisis a mint, 67 year old impossible to find Schuco wind up boat having aperfectly working mechanism. The toy was designed, engineered and made inNuremberg Germany 1950. A great wind up for those who like scarce to rare tintoys.
TheSchuco boat is approximately is 5 ½ inches long, 2 inches wide and 2 incheshigh from the boat bottom to the top of the driver head.
*All tabs are present, untouched andnot broken. The welding is perfect with no cracks or breaks.
*The original gloss on the handpainted figure and the overall boat is still there despite the67 yearage.
*The toy has not been wiped, cleanedwaxed, oiled or touched in any way. Doing so alters the originality.
