Vintage World War II Worn Type A-2 Leather Flight Jacket by Weber Sportswear -44 For Sale

This US Air Force Type A-2Leather Jacket came from an estate.

It was a War World IIissued and worn jacket. This is not just family lore as it is confirmed by theorder number on the label 42-1402-P. This order number denotes that is was issuedin Sept 1941. We do have a picture of the original owner with his squadronwearing the jacket (photo is staying with the family).

Distinguishing Characteristics

• Collar stand construction.
• Nearly square collar.
• Pocket flaps are softly curved with a rounded center point.
• Open box-stitch reinforcements on the top corners of the pockets.
• Rounded leather tongue reinforcement for the back of the snap inside the pocket.
• The shoulder epaulets are relatively narrow.
• Air Force Symbol painted on left arm

This jacket is in great condition considering ithas been in a war. There are signs of repair in the ribbing and lining. Fromthe way the repairs were done in the arm hole of the lining, etc., I believe theymay have been done during the war. There are no major cuts, or tear in theleather. There is a small patch of paint on the right arm.

*Please note that the original A-2 looks today to be arather trim-fitting jacket. Period photos and films reveal a jacket which couldbe worn fitted and sharp looking or a bit baggy and loose in the body. It wasdesigned to fit the thinner male of the time.
