In the 1930s the country was in the midst of the great depression and morale was low. In 1934 a young girl named Shirley Temple had her first movie role. Audiences loved her and she starred in movie after movie all with happy endings, a much needed diversion from the difficult economic times. The Ideal Toy Company started making Shirley Temple dolls to sell to her young fans. With each movie that Shirley made, a new outfit from the movie was made for sale. In addition, mothers and their daughters could purchase patterns to make clothing for their Shirley Temple dolls themselves. These patterns come from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which just shows the lasting place Shirley Temple has in our hearts.

Due to Shirley's stardom, her dollsbecame an instant success and were made for many years in a large variety of sizes. Shirley Temple dolls were made in the followingsizes: 11", 13", 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", 25", and 27". I have patterns available for most of these sizes.

This pattern was originally created March 27, 1943. The copyright for this pattern has expired and it entered the public domain January 1, 1972.
