An Original WW1 British Army No 21 Signaller\'s, Forward Observations, Officer\'s and Sniper Observer\'s Telescope Tripod, War Department stamped.
The stand was used by signaller\'s and sniper observer\'s for forward observations.
The tripod legs are made from oak and have brass pointed tips, all three tips are present. One leg has a brass bracket 6\" up from the tip.
All three legs are in very good condition, varnished and undamaged.
The legs each measure 33\" long, the tripod measures 36\" overall when the legs are closed.
All of the fittings at the top are brass.
Each leg has a brass top piece which is bolted to a base plate and secured with a split pin and nut.
Above the base plate is a swivel plate which the telescope bracket is screwed to.
This allows the telescope to be rotated.
The swivel plate rotates freely, with friction as it should.
The telescope bracket is bolted to the swivel plate with a spring tensioned large brass wing nut, the other end of the bolt has the War Department \'Broad Arrow\' stamped on it.
The bracket has \"Stand Instrument No 21 SID. TEL Stand Mark ??? No 1860\" stamped onto it, see the close up photographs.
This is a very nice example of this stand.
