WW2 U.S. Bell & Howell 16mm Film 70 DLM Movie Camera w/Original Case, Lenses,etc:
$290.00

The term "museum quality" gets tossed around quite liberally in the antiques and militaria business but in this case it is spot on. Item up for offer is an exceptionally rare U.S. marked Bell & Howell 16mm Filmo 70 series camera. These cameras alone are very hard to find but the fact that this one is identified and comes with it's original case, unused film, accessories and extra lenses makes this astonishingly rare. We will state up front that we do not know if this camera is working or not and we have no idea how to operate these to test it. We do know that these were most often supplied to members of the United States Marine Corps and used by Movie Combat Cameramen who kept these in great shape and would send them to a an enlisted man whose sole job was to keep these cameras in perfect working order. Combine that with the fact that Bell & Howell made such good quality pieces that they offered a lifetime guarantee and it is easy to believe that even if this piece is not operational it would not take a lot to make it operational. The crank on the side of the camera still rotates in a clockwise motion with ease. The three lens turret on the front still moves with ease. There is a "U.S. Property" mark above the metal Bell & Howell tag on the right side of the body. The leather handle is present and in good physical condition with no rips or tears and only light surface wear. The metal pieces on the left side that allow you to open and close the body for inserting and removing film show some paint loss and metal oxidation from decades of storage so they may need a cleaning or oiling before attempting to use. We looked through the view finder and saw a clear image so if anything a light cleaning is all it would need. The screw on handle is present and in wonderful condition exhibiting only a small chip along the base edge. The body of the camera shows a few spots of paint wear and some light metal wear around the rounded panel behind the lenses.Inside of the case we found 8 boxes of unused and unopened Kodak 16mm film. Four of the cases are marked "Kodachrome II Daylight Film 100 ft". The other 4 are marked "Kodachrome II Photoflood Film 100 ft." All of the boxes have 1967 manufacture dates so these are obviously more modern than the camera itself and it is possible this camera was kept in service until Vietnam. Along with that is a 4x6 Filtrator Lens Tissue, a Kodak polycontrast filter kit, a Yankee film squeegee and a Kodak sheet film along with numerous small accessory pieces. There are three extra lenses in addition to the three that are on the camera. All of this was housed inside of the case which is of metal construction and is marked on the top with the name "Cpt E W Brian USA/MC" along with what appears to be a serial number. There is a sticker on the top which is not original to the case and could easily be removed if you desired. Handle is made of an olive drab green fabric which is in great, sturdy condition. The interior of the case has several compartments and leather straps meant to hold the accessories in place. One of the snap buttons on a leather strap is missing and the remaining metal ring shows oxidation to the metal. Case interior and exterior shows some paint wear but is in solid condition and will be usable for a lifetime and beyond. One thing worth mentioning is that this item was stored for decades in a garage and over time the case acquired a musty smell. We did our best to clean it up and air it out over the course of a few days but if you have a respiratory condition you may wish to have someone give it an additional cleaning or air it out yourself before playing with it too much. The case measures roughly 10.5" tall by roughly 14.75" wide by roughly 9" thick. Finding any of these pieces alone would be an incredible find for a militaria or camera collector but finding them all together like this with the knowledge of who this was issued to makes it a once in a lifetime find so don't delay or you will miss a truly rare museum quality piece.
