A Rare \'W. Watson & Sons\', English 19th Century Antique Mahogany & Brass Plate Folding Field Camera and TripodA superb field camera by W. Watson & Sons, High Holborn, London, complete with tripod, lens, mahogany plate holders and hood, which may be of interest to collectors.The camera body, brass fittings, black leather bellows, tripod and lens are all in fine condition. The fitted lacquered brass lens is signed, \'\'Flowerdew & Hunt, Nottingham\'\' and operates smoothly. It is fitted with a lens cover which has preserved the glass element well.The mahogany body and oak tripod being free from any splits or cracks and the camera opens and folds down as designed.The ground glass panel is 6 1/2\'\' x 4 3/4\'\' and the serial number on the base panel is 9387. The mahogany photographic slide cases appear to be in very good condition although their original black cotton protective bags are a little ragged in places.I\'ve dealt with many of these antique field cameras over the years but have never seen one in such immaculate order as this one, it really is of museum quality.Note how the brass screw slots are all aligned in the same plane, a mark of the finest quality cabinet makers\' work and one reason why these Watson-made cameras gained such high regard.I feel lucky to have owned this instrument and was very tempted to keep it but it is now for sale with a low start price and .Do ask questions as required and do please see my other antique art listings and items of interest.
