$1000 US Gold Coin50 Year Bond
ON OFFER: A 1931 50 year $1000 U.S. Gold Coin Bond certificate from the General Mortgage of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Series D at4ΒΌ%,and maturing in 1981.Litho\'ed on heavy cream colored bond paper in shades of brown by the American Bank Note Company. The bonds are crisp and clean, with a strongly embossed corporate seal, and boldly hand signed by corporate officers. Pinhole punch canceled. Many have coupons attached. Measuring approx. 10\"x15\" their vignette is an engraving of the now long gone Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan, circa 1925.
The bulk of the proceeds from this bond issue went to complete the electrification program of what is now known as the Northeast Corridor. At the time, in the middle of the Great Depression, it was one of the largest privately funded \"jobs programs\" then under way.
An interesting piece of American financial history, and a very decorative bit of Americana, these bonds come ready for mounting and display.
