1941 Viktor Schreckengost New York to San Francisco deco Bus (not Buddy L):
$3250.00

Description: A highly sought after pressed steel toy bus that was designed by famous industrial designer, Viktor Schreckengost. This bus (and other related trucks with similar cab styles) were produced by Steelcraft during a single year, 1941, and as such, the supply of these buses that survived to modern times is very limited. The bus is 21 inches long. It has rubber wheels. The grill and simulated headlights are nickel, and ad a great patina to the front view. The \"range\" of bus service simulated for play time is proudly stenciled on both sides as, New York * San Francisco. Steelcraft envisioned this bus would be marketed at the World\'s Fair at that time, but ultimately it was only sold as part of the Steelcraft line of toys, a division of Murray-Ohio Manufacturing. The paint colors are notably mid-century modern, and were a great choice for the striking design lines of this vehicle.

Please note that the photos include two related artifacts, a street sign, and a photographed copy of a marketing document for the Schreckengost line of toys. Both the sign and the document are a free to the new buyer. The street sign is a Tonka accessory, and the marketing document was a pre-distribution \"mark-up\" of design, price and strategy, before the toy was actually produced. The document is on an 8-1/2\" by 11\" sheet of photo paper, so suitable for framing.

You will find a reference to this truck on page 304 in the \"Collectors Guide to American Transportation Toys\" by Joe and Sharon Freed.

Condition: This toy is 100% original (including the wheels), and has had no touch ups, nor any repairs. The wheels are in exceptional condition. There is play wear that can be easily seen and assessed in the photos included in this listing. The street sign is free, and is also 100% original. The document is a photo copy of an original.
