Antique 14th, 15th or 16th Century Hand Forged Padlock Lock Door Gate Wrought Iron.
TIBETAN NEPALESE TEMPLE DOOR GATE BUDDHIST VIKING ROMANAuthenticated!
This was made well before the common man had a need for a padlock.
About 5 or 6 years ago the Seattle Pacific University was having an antique authenticationseminar. They would not give a value of the artifact. I took this padlock and a balsa rock with a carved face. Both were authenticatedto around the 14th and 15th century. (My daughter and her family live in the area.)

This is an antique that I bought at an estate sale in Ketchum/Sun Valley about 20 years ago. It is difficult to know if your in Ketchum or Sun Valley. It has been a nice conversation pieceand a pleasure to own. Over the last 15 years I have researched it many times. With mixed results.My research took me all over Europeand the Far East. The closest I came to a similar lock was for a TIBETAN NEPALESE TEMPLE DOOR or GATE in the BUDDHIST culture.
The type with a different pattern was also used in the VIKING, ROMAN, DANISH and throughoutEurope.
It weighs 2 lbs 14 oz with the key. It is 10 1/2" wide withoutthe key and 151/4" with the key inserted.
In Very Good to excellentcondition. The key appears to have beenrepaired or re enforced.
