This antique prescription file box measures approximately 7" long, 4" wide and 1" deep, and contains prescriptions marked with the serial numbers 229301 through 229400.The 97 prescriptions are from the1920s. None of them are dated. Butfor reference I have uploaded a picture of two prescriptions to show that the prescriptions in this file box precede April 25, 1927. 1. Serial Number 229522 is undated but shows the preprinted 192_ for the date to be filled in.

When each prescription was filled and numbered, the pharmacist would secure it inside the box by using the nail to puncture a hole, and then sliding the prescription along the nail to stack neatly inside the box.I removed the prescriptions from the nail so that I could photograph and count them. There are a few either missing or which were skipped in the serial numbering, because there were only 97 in the box. I began sorting them, and then just separated them in stacks of "horizontal" and "vertical" so I could take the pictures. They are no longer in order. I've returned them to the box, but I did not put them back on the nail to avoid accidentally damaging them.
The filling pharmacy and great majority of prescribing doctors were in Brenham, Texas.
