CHAMPLAIN BARGE CANAL TRANSPORTATION CO. NY - 1914 LETTER LAWSUIT & SETTLEMENT:
$25.00

We are offering a typewritten letter dated May 13th, 1914, from Henry G. Noel, Secretary/Treasurer of Champlain Barge Canal Transportation Company, Whitehall, New York, on Champlain Barge Canal Transportation Company letterhead. The letter is to Mr. W. S. Slingsby of Rouses Point, New York. In our research, we have not been able to find information on this company. According to the letter, Mr. Slingsby had an account with Champlain Barge Canal Co. apparently for shipping purposes and was planning to sue the officers of the company, C. D. Cooley, President, and C. W. Lodge, Vice President. Also, Cooley and Lodge were about to fire Henry Noel.
Here is what the letter says. \"Am in receipt of yours of the 12th, and [in] replying I would state that the boatmen who gave you the information as to Messrs. Cooley and Lodge is evidently right as they intend to dump me, but I am fixed so that I can get back at them. As for your account, I do not think that I would start any proceedings as there will be ample [time] to take care of everybody when the insurance matter is adjusted, which I expect will be within the next thirty days as they are now making arrangements to hold another survey within the next few days. I, therefore, would not go to any expense to collect as you will be paid anyway as soon as we receive settlement. Tell Mr. Hoag to do likewise. Have been trying all winter to get them to raise some money so as to pay these bills, but they thought the insurance matter would be settled before this and we could pay our bills. Any prospects for a hay boat [?] - I have got a new one here who wants a load.\"
