CITIZENS UNION LINE AND UNITED STATES MAIL 1834 WAYBILL - LIST OF PASSENGERS For Sale

We are offering a waybill dated Saturday, March 22, 1834, of the Citizens Union Line and United States Mail, which provided passenger and cargo service from Boston and Lowell [Massachusetts] to Brattleboro [Vermont] and Keene [New Hampshire]. It boasts the claim \"Through from Boston to Keene in Thirteen Hours\". The waybill has a nice steel-cut engraving of the stagecoach, drawn by four horses, with a sign saying \"Post Chaise\" on the door. The stagecoach had 3 seats all facing forward - with a man and woman in the back seat; one man in the middle seat looking at the scenery; and two men in the front seat - one who\'s looking out the window, and the other who may be a soldier as he appears to be wearing a uniform, facing forward with his head down and appearing to be sleeping.
The waybill lists the names of the passengers, where they were from, where they were going, and the fares they paid. Miss Ritterage, from Boston, going to Keene, fare $3.00; Mr. Davis from Boston, going to Keene, fare $3.00; Mr. Bellows, from Boston, going to Keane, fare $3.00; and a Boy, from Lowell, going to Keene, fare $1.25, and $.25 for baggage. Also, a couple of Gents and a Boy going to Keane, fares $1.00, $.25 and $.31.
**CONDITION** - document has two spots where the paper had torn off - it sort of looks as if wax seals were on these spots that were torn off, as we can see round red residue that is sometimes seen on envelopes from this period where the red wax seal was broken as the letter was torn open. Not sure why they would be on a document like this, though.
