Charmstone Ancient Native American Plummet Museum Grade Artifact Arrowhead Relic:
$525.00

A Classic Native American Plummet Style, Charmstone. A PERFECT MUSEUM-GRADE PIECE, made of very dense, heavily patenated and banded in layers, silicified sandstone ...This charmstone was crafted in such a manner there are "Bullseyes" on each side of the relic. BIG MEDICINE... It has been ground and polished to a silkey-smooth finish..SIZE 5&1/8 inches X 1&3/4 inches. An authentically ancient, truly museum grade relic. The age is some where between 400 years to 11,000 years ago. The ages for first use of this teardrop type plummet charmstones in America appears to date back to the oldest known humans.. The area of America where they're found in highest concentrations is in the areas around the shorelines of Pleistocene Tulare Lake, CA. Lake Mojave style of "arrowheads" are common there and recently dated as old or older than the Clovis Culture at the Paisley Cave Site in Oregon..
I am 72 years old and have been an avid artifact hunter & collector for many decades. This is one of my very best of about 65-ish pieces in my Charmstone collection.am now selling off my entire collections... So watch my site for more upcoming relics of all kinds. But primarily American but a few quality items from numerous other countries too. This piece has never been completely "cleaned" so ancient "caliche"/mineral deposits can be readily seen in the photos. This is one of about 40 pieces I bought from a collection of many varieties charmstones gathered by 3 generations of one family over many decades, starting in the early 20th Century.
This type of charmstones were used across the US as a way of "magically charming" or channelling all manner supernatural blessing of one kind of another. Examples: Suspended over the crib of a sick child, or same for an injured person or snakebite victim to aid healing. But also used in other ways such as hung by a hunter over a game trail to facilitate an animal giving itself/allow it to be taken/killed. To give it's life to feed his family or tribal members. Other types I will be posting were carried or suspended hanging over bedding in a sleeping area to promote fertility, or strength... or luck for upcoming hunts or battles.
They were hung suspended in the air over a person or situation, (on trees or boats, over sleeping areas, ceilings of dwellings, over weapons or tools, bows & arrows, fishing nets etc. The "Blessing or Power" came out from the pointed end, focusing the desired effect or energy or event to happen in front of the tip.
In the pictures note the bullseyes and how there is one side with a flat spot. Nearly every charmstone I have has a flat spot like that. I believe the ones like mine did double duty as a lucky, protective charmstone AND AS AN ATLATL (Throwing stick) weight, which went out of use about 2500 years ago when they wereplaced with bow & arrow technology...The info on the nature and uses of plummet style charmstones are described inTHE MATERIAL CULTURE OF THE CHUMASHINTERACTION SPHERE. Volume 4. Ceremonial Paraphernalia, Games, and Amusements.PUBLISHED BY UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT SANTA BARBARA & THE SANTA BARBARA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY.Information is based on interviews taken in the early 1900s with very old Chumash indians who were children & teenagers that lived in small tribes, uncontaminated by influence, goods or interaction with Whites or of European descent.Native Americans were able to remain without contact with Europeans far longer on the West CVoast than anywhere in the Eastern US. For example: ISHI remained totally uncontacted by the White man, living in his 100% ancient indian tribal lifestyle until 1911.FREE SHIPPING ONE WAY. I offer a 30-day unconditional guarantee money back return for any reason but buyer pays return shipping. Sales inside the USA only.
