Premier 1960s LeCoultre 8-Day Folding Travel Alarmrose gold case, hands, raised numbers & markers on classic white dial
This prestigious specimen of post WWII Swiss horology is from my personal collection of vintage and antique clocks curated since the early 1970s. Time has come for these old world gems of meticulous craftsmanship to reach appreciative new hands.
The LeCoultre brand is synonymous with quality watches and clocks. This design-patented model is instantly recognizable - embodying the best of modernist aesthetics. The case was produced in several electroplated finishes as well as enamel colors and leather faced versions. Rose gold is particularly elegant.
8-day running movements (designated by circled 8 on the dial) were considerably more expensive than outwardly identical 2-day LeCoultre alarm clocks. Others are readily available. However, not in this condition.
NOTE:A few years ago, I completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil. Mainsprings were removed from barrels, cleaned and lubricated with grease. Hands, dial and the crystal were cleaned. Restoration should provide reliable operation for several years. Labor and material cost for professional overhaul of comparable Swiss alarm clocks averages $375.
