Nice lot of 2 RARE Eugene Debs cards! The one on the left is about 1 ½ x 2 ½ inches and marked from The Daily Historie. Not paper, business card stock. It’s been cut out from a magazine or other publication, I think. Definitely vintage. Definitely rare. Definitely falls under the definition of a trading card. From our personal collection and we’ve never seen another or any other related cards. Has an unusual, decorative back. I would guess from pre-WW2. Probably one of a kind by now.
The other is a playing card, the Ace of Clubs, showing Debs. A valuable and rare card – the most valuable from that playing card set. Debs was the 5-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was imprisoned during World War 1 for speaking out against that war. While in prison, and in failing health, Debs earned almost 1 million votes for president. This vintage card is from a playing card set put out by Amalgamated Meat Cutters & Butcher Workmen of North America showing American labor union leaders. Probably in the 1950s. Measures 2 ½ x 3 ½.
As shown. The smaller trading card shows minor to moderate wear with a bit more to edges, some minor blemishes and some uneven, but generally light, discolor. The playing card shows minor wear. Very nice.
