Kaywoodie Flame Grain Billiard Vintage Pipe. Nicely Grained in Very Good Condition. c1937-1972, Fully Restored Ready To Smoke

Description & Info:

*All estate pipes are ready to smoke out of the box and come in a new sock. I spare no expense in packaging so you have a great experience.

About this Pipe:

The Flame Grain line is always a win. I only wish I had more of them. This very nice Billiard has great flame grain along with Birds-Eye paired with a very nice Vulcanite stem and the round club insert on the stem.

The stinger has been cut as is quite common. Many do/did this in the past for more air flow and to pass a cleaner through it easily. I’ve smoothed over the metal and polished it as well as ensured the stem is aligned straight and true. Aside from a few small darker areas on the rim, it’s has no other blemishes such as dings, dents or damage. The stem was de-oxidized and treated with Obsidian Oil for a deep, shiny and smooth finish. The chamber is well seasoned and clean, ready for a new cake to be formed.

Restoration:

As with all my pipes, this piece has been first off, vetted and thoroughly inspected. The internals are cleaned very well and the chamber reamed and cleaned to minimize ghosting and ensure good condition.

The stem almost always has an hour or more of meticulous work put in. It has been gently re-surfaced to remove any oxidation, marks or scratches and hand polished to an extremely smooth finish that’s a deep, shiny black. Obsidian Stem Oil with its UV block is applied a couple times during the process to slow down future oxidation. Any metal parts are cleaned and polished. The stummel has been carefully buffed up to White Diamond, a very smooth compound that helps remove old wax and residue and leaves the briar very smooth and shiny. The pipe recieved multiple coats of fresh carnauba wax over the course of a day. I apply thin coats with rests between and a buffing before the next coat. These stacked layers of Carnauba leave a long lasting and durable protective coat that looks and feels great. Finally, it’s hand buffed with a clean micro-fiber towel.

The stem fits nicely, air flows freely and the pipe is fully ready to smoke out of the box.

I’m obsessive about restorations and will put as many hours as needed to bring to back to the best it can be, whether it’s a $35 unbranded Briar or a $400 high end piece.

Please look at the photos as they’re your indication of condition along with dimensions, that are listed below. If you have any questions, please ask before purchasing.

Thank you so much for looking. - Peter

Policies, Shipping, About me, and the Restoration Process:

I BELIEVE IN THE GOLDEN RULE. I sell and ship everything as I’d expect to receive it myself or better.

PLEASE READ:

I don’t own the United States Postal Service. Once I’ve shipped your package, I have NO control on delays.

BELOW: Policies, Shipping, My Restorations & a bit about me.

About Me:

I am obsessed with the hobby! I’ve got bad PAD & TAD. I am also a stay-at-home dad for my special needs son who is amazing! I really needed a way to feel accomplishment and stay busy while trying to earn a bit extra for equine therapy and other things like that. This has really helped a lot and while stressful at times, such a fun thing to spend time doing.

Shipping: I ship within 1-3 business days or however it is stated. I try to shop same or next day but sometimes I may have a lot. I take my time to pack items extremely safe. I’ve never had an item arrive damaged. In most cases, I have a poly bag on top to make it rain resistant and a bit more secure. I don’t charge for shipping. My fees are for postage and materials only.

RETURN POLICY:

If you’re not 100% happy, please let me know. I’ll do whatever is fair to fix any problems. I accept returns within 2 weeks provided: The item has not been used. It is in exact same condition as the photos in the ad and when I sent it out. Buyer pays shipping for returns unless there is an error on my end. I almost never get a return. I try hard to not have any surprises. :)

Why the Grass? - It helps the pipes stay in position for taking photos actually. It works so well, I’ve not changed to something a bit less funny looking. Stands out too doesn’t it?

My Restorations:

Every pipe is individually and carefully selected before I do anything. After a thorough examination, what is done to the pipe varies on need but the end goal is to have it looking as good as it can possibly be, regardless of the time it takes me. At the least, even pipes that come to me unsmoked will have a couple hours of meticulous work into them. I’ve spent years studying from the best, buying and making the best equipment for the job and I’ve done over 1,000 pipes, easily.

Stems are resurfaced as needed for scratches, indentations and oxidation. I can spend hours just on that. I apply Obsidian Stem Oil a couple times during the process for more protection. The pipe is carefully cleaned inside and out and inspected again. Each pipe is buffed with white Diamond using my commercial grade digitally controlled buffer, not a bench grinder turned buffer. This removes any dirt, old wax still on and other accumulations as well as brings the factory stain back to an excellent shine. My waxing process is time consuming and I’ll spend an entire day on 10 pipes just for waxing. I apply thin layers of carnauba then left to rest and hand buffed before applying another 2 layers. These multiple stacked coats leave a long lasting, durable and very shiny finish.

There’s much more that is done depending on each pipe. I am as conservative as possible yet look over every detail like the shape of the button and a flashlight down the mortise. I’m as much or more of a pipe enthusiast as anyone and the obsession caries over into these pieces I have for sale.

If you ever have questions on any of this, feel free to email me.
