NICE, Large 12\" REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD POWDER HORN w/Stopper
DESCRIPTION:Very nice, unusual RevolutionaryWar POWDER HORN, used to store gun powder by individual riflemen for use with their flintlock muskets.
Very nice looking and very nicely carved. Measures about 12\" along its length. Pouring end is unusual and VERY MUCH THE STYLE OF A REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD POWDER HORN.
POURING END STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL HAND CARVED WOODEN PLUG, WHICH ARE USUALLY MISSING.
Has nice tiny iron nails to hold the wooden butt plug in. BUTT PLUG IS NICELY DOMED. Has a nice early hook to attach the strap. A long piece of rawhide has been attached to this as a strap and facilitates hanging. It is not early, however, and is a later addition.
This has the design, style, aged patina, size, and look of a Revolutionary War period horn. Has really nice color and horn characteristics, with a nice curve and twist to it. Will be a nice addition to a collection or to hang with a musket over a fireplace.
Excellent condition, and no damage, holes, or weakness anywhere.
