Plains Indian Ledger Book Art - Rare Milwaukee Public Museum 34 Plate Portfolio For Sale

Proudly presentedtoday is this rare First Printing of "Sioux Indian Drawings",published by Milwaukee Public Museum in 1961. Long out of print, this portfoliocontains 34 plates taken from the Red Hawk Ledger Book. This incrediblecollection was in the possession of a Sioux warrior who survived the WoundedKnee Massacre in 1890. In 1900, the collection was donated to the MilwaukeePublic Museum, and in 1961, 36 plates were reproduced in a limited firstedition printing. This portfolio is from that printing. Two of the plates aremissing, Plate 2 and Plate 13, and the historical pamphlet that accompanies theprints is a reproduction of the original. The plates are in truly excellentcondition without any issues whatsoever, and measure 12 inches by 15 and aquarter inches. The Red Hawk Ledger Book is arguably the best collection ofPlains Indian Ledger Art in existence, and this portfolio is an historicallyimportant representation of that record.
