This handsome timepiece is from my personal collection of clocks curated since 1972.Commencing with apprenticeship to a European master clock and watchmaker through high school graduation, freshmen year of college and remainder of the 1970s, I sensitively restored clocks of all types; opening service and sales showrooms in the western suburbs of Chicago. After a 35 year "sabbatical" pursuing an appraisal career, I've returned to the venerable trade.Angelus (favored by Tiffany & Co.) along with Swiss competitors Imhof, Looping, Concord and Luxor manufactured the best jeweled lever alarm, desk and shelf clocks. This is timepiece with 5" bezel displays exemplary design and workmanship.Case precision cast and machined of solid brass with satin brushed and polished finishes. Airfoil shape plinth with low pedestal supporting the thin bezel. Plate glass with seamed edge. Matte silvered dial screened with "Angelus" "8" and stamped "SWISS." Bold applied brass numbers and stick hands - easily read at a distance. Polished steel alarm pointer. The clock presents handsomely and is in fine operating order.
NOTE: This year the movement was completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed in waterless solutions, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oils. Alarm and time train mainsprings were removed from barrels, cleaned and lubricated with grease. Hands, dial and crystal were cleaned. Case elements and the rear cover were cleaned to remove grime, hand buffed to achieve satin and polished surfaces, and clear lacquer sealed. Four snapshots depict the case prior to refinishing.Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years and enhanced aesthetics.
