Ze’ev Raban -set of 4 chromolithographs - beautifully framed & matted - 1950s

This framed chromolithograph is one of four scenes by Ze\'ev Raban from sites in the Holy Land. The four include:

1) Jaffa -- an ancient port city on the Mediterranean Sea famous for its association with the biblical account of Jonah. The prophet is pictured below the landscape, being expelled from the belly of the great fish.

2) Tiberias -- the largest Jewish city in the Galilee and a political and religious hub. The city was built near 17 natural mineral hot springs known for curative qualities.

3)Rachel\'s Tomb -- located near Bethlehem and is considered holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Her burial is recorded in Genesis 35:19–20. She is pictured in a niche to the left and Joseph to the right. Tothe left of Rachel\'s tomb is a solitude tree; in the background a starry sky. Above the central arched frame is written \"קבר רחל\" or \"Rachel\'s Tomb\". Written in Hebrew below the tomb is Jeremiah 31:15.
4) Jericho -- Famous as the oldest continually inhabited city on earth, Jericho\'s past is referenced via an archeological dig. Insets portray the Ark of the Covenant and two spies returning with a huge cluster of grapes.

About the artist: Wolf Rawicki was born in Łódź, Poland in 1890 and moved to Ottoman Palestine, and in 1912 he adopted the name Ze\'ev Raban. He studied at the Bezalel school and later joined the school\'s faculty. Raban taught anatomy and composition, as well as painting and sculpture. Bezalel subjects were a combination of traditional Jewish religious images, Zionist symbols, Biblical themes, views of the Holy Land and depictions of the flora and fauna of Palestine.

Printed circa 1950 in Israel, each print measures approximately 9 x 5.5 inches. With the frame, each measures 9.5 x 13 inches. The black lacquer frame with beautiful texture fabric matted border was done at Hudson\'s Department Store in Detroit on November 27, 1956. Frames exhibit some wear and tear consistent with age. Prints are in mint conditions.

I only ship with USPS to addresses within the United States only. No returns.
