British P1888 Mk1 2nd type Bayonet South Lancashire Regt Prince of Wales Volunte For Sale

This is dated 7/90 below the crown of Queen Victoria on the ricasso. It was manufactured by the Wilkinson Sword Company of London. The blade condition is excellent with no damage or corrosion. The muzzle ring and pommel shows some evidence of age with surface staining of a plum patina. It has no damage to these surfaces with stamping approx 1/16 inch S.L. the S is poorly struck, research indicates it is from the Prince of Wales Volunteers South Lancashire regiment. On the opposite side is stamped 455 stuck through and 187 below. These are duplicated on the scabbard mouthpiece. The English Walnut grips are in perfect condition and secured with two brass rivets. The locking mechanism works perfectly. The Scabbard is a Mk 1L by Wilkinson with some staining of the metal on the locket and chape. The tear drop frog stud has a little corrosion pitting which is only cosmetic. The chape has some movement on the leather. The black leather has a little loss to the surface near the chape. The stitching is good and secure.
