1878 French Gras Bayonet Sword. Original W/O Sheath. For Sale

French ‘Gras' bayonet, 20.5 in. blade and 25.5 in. overall, with a solid brass pommel, integral latching mechanism and wood grips. The crossguard and blade are steel, the spine marked: ‘Mre. d'Armes de St. Etiennne Fevrier 1877'. The etching was to indicate the maker as the state-owned weapons manufacturer Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne in February of 1877. This bayonet was the last of the French ‘sword-type' bayonets, manufactured to fit the French Model 1874
