After decades of relative obscurity, Hurrell experienced a dramatic career resurgence in the 1970s when G. Ray Hawkins began exhibiting and selling his prints from his gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Hawkins recognized the art market potential of Hurrell's archive and arranged for the photographer to produce signed, numbered limited edition prints from his original negatives, such as this work. Hurrell continued making public appearances and producing new work until shortly before his death in 1992 at age 87.Sir Elton John owned a copy of this exact image
