Vintage Santo Nino de Cebu Child Jesus Statue 11" Philippines Crown Folk Art
Beautiful vintage Santo Niño de Cebu (Holy Child of Cebu) devotional figure depicting the Child Jesus in traditional royal regalia.
The figure wears an elaborate red cape with gold trim and an ornate embossed metal crown. His right hand is raised in blessing while his left holds a cross-topped orb, traditional attributes of the Santo Niño de Cebu. The figure stands on a tiered wooden pedestal decorated with embossed metal bands, including one reading “Sto. Niño de Cebu.”
The piece has wonderful handcrafted detail throughout, including applied metallic and jeweled decorations, gold boots, painted features and an elaborate crown.
The Santo Niño de Cebu is one of the best-known Catholic devotional images of the Philippines and depicts the Christ Child as king. The traditional image is characterized by its crown, royal garments, blessing hand and orb.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. The delicate metal crown has bending and distortion to its upper decorative elements, as pictured. I have left the crown exactly as found rather than attempting to reshape the old metal. There is wear, scuffing and finish loss to the wooden pedestal, along with some age-related wear to the clothing, trim and applied decorations. Please review all photos closely.
