Vintage Vietnam War 3” Brass WAR Pendant Necklace GI Pro War Veteran Estate For Sale

Original Vietnam War era oversized brass “WAR” pendant necklace, dating to the late 1960s / early 1970s.

These unusual WAR medallions were worn by some American servicemen in Vietnam as a deliberate counter to the peace-symbol jewelry of the period. Contemporary reporting from Saigon documented WAR medallions being worn by U.S. troops, while surviving examples have also been associated with Special Forces, MACV-SOG and reconnaissance veterans.

The large openwork design spells WAR within a circular brass frame. This is the larger 3-inch version, accompanied by its long gold-tone chain.

Measurements:

• Pendant: 3” diameter, not including upper suspension link

• Chain: Approximately 30” total length / 15”

• Overall drop: Approximately 18” from top of chain to bottom of pendant

Provenance:

Acquired around 2018 from the Fort Worth, Texas estate of a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. The veteran’s identity is no longer known, so no specific unit or individual attribution is being made.

Condition:

Good vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear, patina and oxidation. It has not been polished or cleaned.
