Folded, this original paper weave puzzle measures approximately 11.25 x 13 inches, with larger unfolded dimensions when opened. This is an original Crosspatch Weave Puzzle No. 8, dating to the 1940s and firmly within the vintage period.
Crosspatch puzzles are interlaced strip puzzles, designed to be assembled by tearing along perforations and weaving the paper strips together to reveal a completed image. This example features a World War II–era military soldier theme, with illustrated figures arranged into a grid that resolves only when properly woven.
The front panel reads “Can you line up the Rookies?” and lists the original price of 25¢. Interior panels provide illustrated directions for assembling the weave puzzle, along with the completed reference design. The puzzle is credited to TED, 1137 Statler Building, Boston, Massachusetts, and marked Patent Pending.
Condition is unused but age-worn, with visible toning, staining, and paper discoloration consistent with long-term storage. Perforations appear intact. A strong survivor and an excellent example of mid-20th-century American paper puzzle design with clear WWII visual influence.
throughout is typical of educated New England writers of the era, using iron gall ink with occasional bleed-through.
