Original 1919 illustrated D. F. Littlefield Produce Commission Merchant billhead from Saco, Maine. The business was located at 238–242 Main Street, Saco, ME, and the elaborate engraved advertising header states “Established 1861.”
The large decorative header is particularly attractive, featuring an agricultural/orchard scene with workers, horses, fruit trees, fields and tropical vegetation. A central illustrated sign advertises “Oranges, Lemons, Bananas, Grapes &c.” alongside fruit imagery.
Dated May 14, 1919, the bill is made out to A. C. Warren and contains handwritten entries apparently including grapefruit and oranges. Several CREDIT stamps appear across the document.
Especially interesting is the printed line along the bottom:
“United States Food Administration License No. G 17758.”
That places the billhead directly in the World War I-era federal food-regulation period, adding another historical angle beyond its Maine commercial and produce-trade interest.
Measures approximately 6 x 8.25 inches.
Original antique paper with expected age toning, light handling/edge wear, folds/creases and other minor age-related wear as shown. Please examine photos closely for condition.
A very graphic piece of Saco, Maine commercial ephemera, with strong appeal for collectors of Maine history, early produce and grocery businesses, fruit advertising, illustrated billheads, commission merchants and WWI-era Food Administration material.
Authentic period piece related to family, historyor local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.Vintage or Antique.
