Original Vintage 1964 Frency's Theatre Restaurant Menu 29097 Mission Boulevard Hayward Night Club Theater Bay Area California
Frenchy's on Mission Boulevard was Hayward's oddity — 'the hippest club in an unhip area,' by 1966 the only rock room between Berkeley and San Jose, run Whisky-a-Go-Go style with go-go dancers on platforms. Its stage carries real history: on June 18, 1965 the Warlocks — soon to be the Grateful Dead — played here in Phil Lesh's first gig with the band, and a year later Frank Zappa's Mothers backed a young Neil Diamond on the same boards. The club went topless in late 1966 ('Topless Was A Big Bust,' its own ads admitted), fell to creditors by 1969 with a sheriff's keeper at the door, and the abandoned building was eventually demolished.
It measures 11.5" x 8.75" closed and 17.5" x 11.5" open
