Dunhill Root Briar 42024 Bent Estate Pipe Rare Date Stamp Error White Spot:
$449.95

Here is a beautiful and clean Dunhill Root Briar 42024 estate pipe in a compact, elegant bent billiard shape with warm Root Briar finish, excellent birdseye and flame grain, and a classic full-bent black vulcanite saddle stem sporting Dunhill's iconic white spot.

This one is unique in that it seems to bear an unusual stamping anomaly. First of all, the stamped date code is five digits: 42024. Dunhill only used the 5-digit date code from 1978-1984. However, the date stamp after "Made in England" is simply an underlined 2. I would normaly chalk this up to normal estate wear--someone rubbed it off over the years. But to my eyes, this pipe has only ever been smoked 2 or maybe 3 times. That's it.The date code should betwo underlined digits (18-24 for 1978-1984). Personally, I think this is interesting and makes this a unique pipe. But you may know better, and I'd love to hear from you. Perhaps this was normal for Dunhill stamping in the early 1980s. All that being said, please review the stamping photos closely.

By the way, the shape code digits stand for: "4" = group 4; "2" = saddle stem; "02" = bent; and the final "4" denotes the unique bowl shape.

This pipe is in a very lightly smoked condition. The bowl is very clean. I've scrubbed the internals, and the rim presents well. The stem has very, very minor tooth marks at the button but is clean, black, and glossy.

This is a handsome and unusual Dunhill Root Briar with a collectible stamping oddity.
