Description:

Monumental Vienna Secession table lamp, attributed to Hands Ofner for Argentor, Austria, circa 1905–1910.
Entirely crafted in silvered bronze, the lamp displays a geometric and modernist architectural design with a strong vertical composition. The structure rises from a circular base decorated with groups of radial fluting and geometric motifs, from which four tall fluted columns extend upward to support the shade.
The large octagonal shade is decorated on all eight sides with a combination of thick, transparent faceted crystal elements in square and rectangular forms. From the entire lower perimeter hangs a curtain of long, individually suspended tubular crystal drops, surrounding the light source and creating a remarkable luminous effect when illuminated.
At the center of the four columns is a pierced cylindrical holder designed to accommodate a removable flower vase, integrating this decorative function into the architecture of the lamp itself.
The geometry of the composition, the fluted treatment of the base and columns, and the integration of crystal within the structure closely relate the piece to the language of the Vienna Secession and support its attribution to Hands Ofner for Argentor.
The shade retains several stamped marks, including “A.S.” clearly legible in capital letters, accompanied by another partially illegible mark. All marks are reproduced in detail in the photographs.

Overall height: 37.4 in (95 cm)
Base diameter: 11 in (28 cm)
Octagonal shade: approx. 15 in (38 cm) across opposite flat sides, not measured from corner to corner.

Condition:

Very good overall condition considering its age, with patina, wear, and minor signs of use consistent with a piece dating from circa 1905–1910.
The faceted crystal elements surrounding the shade are present. One was replaced at some point with another antique crystal element of substantial thickness and very similar appearance, integrating well visually with the others. Another faceted crystal element has a partial loss, clearly documented in the photographs.
The lower curtain retains all of its tubular crystal drops, with every original suspension point on the shade occupied. Several of these drops have old breaks or losses at their ends, accounting for the differences in length currently visible. No tubular crystal drops are missing.
The cylindrical glass flower vase currently fitted to the lamp is a later replacement and is not considered original.
The lamp currently retains its old cloth-covered electrical cord and porcelain plug, both shown in the photographs. Due to the age of the electrical system, the lamp will be rewired with new electrical wiring prior to shipment. The old cloth-covered cord and porcelain plug will be preserved and included with the lamp.
Due to its dimensions, considerable weight, and particularly the fragility of its numerous crystal elements, the lamp will be carefully disassembled for safe shipping. The buyer will need to reassemble the lamp upon receipt, either personally or with the assistance of a qualified professional.
As a safety precaution, we recommend having the electrical installation inspected by a qualified professional before connecting and using the lamp.
