DescriptionThis is an original prewar Imperial Japanese Navy-related private photo album containing approximately 64 photographs.Unlike a commercially published commemorative photo book, this album appears to have been privately assembled by an individual, with photographs carefully mounted on black pages and many accompanied by handwritten captions identifying ships, locations, events, and other subjects.The album contains a remarkably broad range of Imperial Japanese Navy subjects, including the battleship Ise, cruiser Naka, destroyer Hatsuharu, other Japanese naval vessels, torpedo firing, naval aircraft, Oppama Naval Air Group, the Naval Engineering School, the Naval Academy at Etajima, group photographs of sailors, and scenes aboard ships and at sea.It also includes portraits of important Japanese naval figures including Admiral Togo Heihachiro, as well as photographs related to the Argentine Navy.Of particular interest is a large group photograph associated with Naval Engineering School trainees in 1928, providing a direct visual record of the men and educational environment of the prewar Imperial Japanese Navy.Why this album is rareThis was not mass-produced as a standard photographic publication.
