RARE!!! 110 YEAR OLD AMBER TOLEDO, OHIO STRAIGHT SIDE COCA-COLA BOTTLE!!

A scarce and highly collectible early amber straight-sided Coca-Cola bottle from Toledo, Ohio, dating to approximately 1907–1912.

This is the desirable double-diamond variation, boldly embossed with the classic Coca-Cola script inside a large double diamond on the front, additional Coca-Cola script on the reverse, and another strongly embossed Coca-Cola script trademark on the base.

The rich amber glass, heavy construction, extensive embossing and unusual Toledo double-diamond design give this bottle tremendous display presence. At only 7¾ inches tall, it is remarkably substantial and heavy in the hand.

The bottle has been professionally tumbled and presents with beautiful clarity and gloss, allowing the deep amber color and extensive embossing to really stand out.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuinely early and considerably scarcer Coca-Cola bottle from the period preceding the famous contour bottle.

Straight-sided Coca-Cola bottles represent an important early chapter in the history of Coca-Cola packaging. Before adoption of the now-famous contour or "hobbleskirt" bottle beginning in 1915, Coca-Cola bottlers around the country used a fascinating assortment of locally embossed straight-sided bottles.

Unlike the standardized contour bottle that followed, these early bottles were produced in numerous configurations with different embossing patterns, colors and city markings. This has made straight-sided Coca-Cola bottles a substantial collecting specialty in their own right.

The center diamond-script variety is generally dated approximately 1907–1912, with collector references specifically identifying the design with Toledo, Ohio in amber glass, along with Cumberland, Maryland examples.

That is an important distinction. This isn't simply an old amber soda bottle carrying the Coca-Cola name; it belongs to a comparatively short-lived and distinctive group of early straight-sided Coca-Cola bottles.

The Toledo identification is prominently incorporated into the bottle itself. TOLEDO, OH appears along the lower front, while the base carries another beautifully embossed Coca-Cola script trademark together with TOLEDO, O.

The bottle's completely machine-made construction places it during the transition from earlier hand-finished bottles to automated bottle manufacture and is consistent with an early-20th-century date.

The bottle has an especially attractive combination of characteristics:

The heavy embossing is particularly impressive when the bottle is illuminated, with the amber glass changing considerably depending upon the strength and direction of the light.

This bottle has been professionally tumbled and displays beautifully, with excellent clarity, strong gloss and exceptionally attractive amber glass.

There is a substantial chip from one portion of the mouth/lip, clearly shown in the photographs. Fortunately, the damage is confined to the mouth area and does not detract greatly from the bottle when displayed upright from the front.

The remainder of the bottle presents very nicely. There is some expected wear from more than a century of use and handling, along with minor surface marks and manufacturing irregularities in the glass.

The body, embossing and especially the beautifully embossed base remain highly attractive. Despite the lip damage, this is a very displayable example of a scarce early Toledo amber Coca-Cola bottle.
