[Cuxhaven, a port town in Lower Saxony at the mouth of the Elbe River on the North Sea, was a significant naval location with infrastructure used during both World Wars, including connections to U-boat operations, activities, and nearby air bases.]
[ Immediately following WW1, Germany secretly maintained efforts to preserve U-boat expertise, though formal "training on U-boats" was prohibited by the Treaty of Versailles, which was signed in June 1919. While all German submarines were technically surrendered or destroyed, key personnel began clandestine activities to ensure that U-boat knowledge was not entirely lost.
