Up for sale is an exceptionally clean, highly collectible Hughes Owens 341-3010 Versalog Duplex Slide Rule. This is the hard-to-find Canadian-market variant of the legendary Sun Hemmi 258 / Post 1460 system, widely regarded as one of the finest mathematical engineering tools ever produced.
This specific piece features the authentic Hemmi date code "QG", confirming it was manufactured in July 1966. It is built with a premium laminated bamboo core and finished with brilliant white celluloid faces.
Condition Details:
Faces & Scales: Excellent condition. The white celluloid faces are bright, pristine, and perfectly legible. There is zero yellowing, fading, or staining.
Wood Ends: The raw bamboo end grains show some vintage red and dark ink staining from historical use (see close-up photos). This is purely cosmetic, completely normal for a well-loved engineering tool, and does not affect the brilliant white face scales or the smooth sliding action of the rule.
Action: Excellent. The slide operates seamlessly and glides smoothly across the bamboo core without sticking or binding.
Cursor: Aside from a small cosmetic chip at the top frame edge (visible in photos), the cursor is in excellent condition. The main viewing glass is exceptionally clear, glossy, and free of typical surface scuffs or cloudiness. The vital hairline indicator remains fully intact and functional.
Leather Case: Great structural vintage condition. Features a crisp, clearly stamped Hughes Owens logo on the front flap. The heavy-duty stitching is fully intact and tight along all seams with no splitting. Please note the inside suede flap shows a smooth horizontal patch where a previous owner's personal name was historically abraded away, leaving the interior clean and free of prominent ink or marker stains.
